Air Abrasion (HealOzone)
This treatment is very popular with our patients, because it means that in many cases they no longer require fillings when a tooth is decayed. It also often prevents root canal treatment from being necessary.
If a tooth is decayed, then instead of the usual process of drilling out the decayed part of the tooth and filling the hole, we use HealOzone. This harnesses the anti-bacterial properties of ozone gas by applying it directly to the decayed tooth surface, killing bacteria and stopping further decay. This is harmless and means fewer injections, less drilling and smaller fillings.
As an alternative to HealOzone, we can offer another simple and pain-free method for small fillings, air abrasion. This targets the decayed area of the tooth with a fine stream of ari mixed with tiny particles of powder, and again needs no drill. It removes the decay and conserves virtually all of the healthy material within the tooth.
