The benefits of brushing your teeth are widely publicised but what else can you add to your brushing regime to keep your teeth in the best condition? There are a range of products but which should you be using? Here, we list three of the most popular products and a bit about them and how you can use them to get the smile you want.
Interdental brushes are a great addition to your brushing routine. They are tiny brushes with bristled heads, used to clean in between the teeth. Their smaller size and flexibility mean that they reach where the larger standard brushes can’t. They act as an alternative to flossing and come in a range of sizes, so you can pick the one which will best fit snugly between your teeth. Some people may find they need to use a combination of sizes to successfully clean all areas of their mouth. These brushes are an excellent way of combating and preventing gum disease.
With a range of products on the market, choosing which toothpaste to use may seem a minefield. While you can opt for whichever features best suit your individual needs, you should make sure that your toothpaste contains fluoride. Fluoride is a mineral which is renowned for its ability to fight tooth decay. Fluoride both increases the ability of tooth enamel to resist acid attack and decreases plaque’s production of acid. Using a toothpaste which contains fluoride is a way of protecting your teeth.
Mouthwash offers an additional way of utilising fluoride. Use as well as rather than instead of brushing and make sure to spread the timings out – always at least half an hour after brushing your teeth, as you don’t want to rinse away the protective layer toothpaste will leave. It’s also worth using mouthwash at a time you wouldn’t normally brush your teeth, e.g. around midday if you tend to brush your teeth in the mornings and evenings. This extra defence serves to keep your mouth clean and protected and reduces the risk of tooth decay.
Using some or all of these products will help you do your best for your mouth. Remember, this should be combined with regular dental check-ups. At CornerHouse, we believe in preventative dental treatment. The earlier a problem is detected, the quicker it can be sorted.
