Dental Fissure Sealants

Here at Cornerhouse, we believe prevention is better than cure. This is why we offer dental fissure sealants: it is another way of protecting your teeth from tooth decay and the resulting damage. Here, we answer some frequently asked questions about dental fissure sealants so that you can decide if they would be right for you.

What is it?

A thin plastic layer which is added to your back teeth.

How does it work?

This layer creates a barrier between your teeth and food debris and bacteria, giving the debris and bacteria less of a chance to settle in the ridges of your teeth and cause decay.

How is it done?

It’s a simple procedure. The teeth are cleaned and then the sealant is added and left to harden. It is quick and painless and takes only a couple of minutes for each tooth.

Is it obvious?

In a word, no! The sealant can’t be felt on your teeth.

Who is it for?

Sealing is only necessary where someone has deep fissures (grooves) on their teeth. If this is you, then sealants can help! Your dental team can advise you on which teeth need sealants.

Do I still have to clean my teeth?

Absolutely! The sealants will make the actual act of cleaning them easier as you now have a smoother surface to keep clean.
