Acupuncture – New To Corner House Dental

We’re very pleased to announce that we are now offering acupuncture treatment to help with a variety of dental conditions, though with a particular focus on conventional dentistry. Acupuncture has been proven to contribute in relieving dental phobia-related anxiety, according to information released by the NHS.

How is acupuncture used?

Very fine needles are carefully and gently administered to targeted areas and increase blood flow. This helps to flush toxins and by-products that are stored in muscles. Those with an aversion to the discomfort of needles need not be afraid, as acupuncture is associated with a tingling and warm sensation, rather than a sensation of pain. Acupuncture triggers the nervous system into releasing neurochemical messages that promote the feeling of wellbeing and relaxation, making it a great choice of treatment to combat dental fear. By stimulation specific acupuncture points, the brain also puts up a better defence to stress.

Dr Sean Danino will be offer acupuncture and has a keen interest and desire to help patients overcome dental phobias at a gentle and slow pace that suits them. Dr Danino recommends a series of six sessions to reap the full benefits of treatment.

Other solutions for nervous patients: IV sedation

Corner House also offer nervous patients the option of IV sedation to help them undergo treatment. IV sedation (intravenous sedation) is administered via a tiny needle called a cannula and designed to relax patients for the treatment. A huge amount of patients are so dental phobia that they actually avoid getting the treatment they need, which can result in much more complex treatment down the line. IV sedation gives them the confidence to have such treatment and change their perception of the dentist. This type of sedation means the patient is still awake and able to communicate with the dentist, but the effect of the sedative is one relaxation and wellbeing. Patients may forget they’ve had a procedure altogether, as the drug can produce an amnesic effect in some people. During your consultation appointment, we can talk you through what option may be best to help you overcome your nerves and go through with the treatment you deserve.
