Losing a tooth can be traumatic and leave you feeling like smiling isn’t the first thing on your list of priorities. Fortunately (thanks to innovations in modern dentistry) it’s more straightforward than ever to replace a missing tooth and restore your ability to eat comfortably, speak without any impediments and feel more confident. One popular and common option for replacing missing teeth is a dental bridge, which literally “bridges” the gap between your existing teeth.
There are 4 types of bridge and your dentist will run through the options, highlighting the advantages of each. The type of bridge you have will also depend on where the vacant space is in your mouth.
Placing a dental bridge
The placement of a bridge isn’t a surgical procedure, so you’ll be awake throughout treatment. If you’re feeling nervous about treatment, we can offer sedation, so you feel more relaxed. Please don’t be afraid to voice your concerns if you suffer from dental anxiety – here at Corner House our team are committed to making you feel safe and pain-free. The first step to placing a bridge is to take measurements and moulds of your mouth, to ensure your bridge is a perfect and comfortable fit. A plaster model is built, giving us an understanding of how your teeth bite together and we can then prepare your teeth so the bridge fits. This is achieved by safely and carefully removing a very small amount of tooth matter, so the bridge fits comfortably. The bridge is made at an off-site dental lab and will be created to match the aesthetic of your smile, in ways such as tone, shade and shape. When placing the bridge, local anaesthetic is used (unless you have opted for sedation). You’ll then have a healthy smile and your neighbouring teeth will no longer be at risk of shifting out of position, nor will you have to worry about unsightly gaps in your smile. We love seeing patients leave the practice feeling happier and more confident, not just about their smile, but their whole facial aesthetic.
All-on-4 implant-supported bridge at Corner House Dental
Here at Corner House, we can offer All-on-4 implants treatment: an implant-supported bridge. This is a particularly attractive option for those who have multiple missing teeth and would like a fixed treatment that protects the health of their jawbone. Dental implants in Norwich achieve this as they trick the body into thinking they are a body part and thus, the tissues in the jawbone start to grow around the implant, making it feel at home. You won’t have to worry about having to remove it and if cared for properly, it can last a lifetime.
