Dental Implants at Corner House Dental: Your Options

Missing teeth can be extremely detrimental on your confidence as well as your oral health. Left untreated, missing teeth can cause big problems not only for your teeth, but your jawbone, supporting facial structures and even your general health. Dental implants treatment has changed the lives of many patients who have visited our Norwich dental practice, and to us as dentists, dental implants are up there amongst the most life-changing treatments we can offer. There are a number of ways in which dental implants can be used to restore a person’s smile and they’re a viable choice if you’re looking to replace ill-fitting dentures- they can even be used to secure dentures firmly into place.

Single dental implants

Loosing just one tooth can disrupt the health and function of your smile, and here at Corner House we offer single dental implants to resolve this.

Replacing back teeth is particularly important, as these are the teeth responsible for most of your chewing. When even just one of these teeth are lost, you leave the role of breaking down food to other teeth (including your front teeth) which are not equipped to perform such functions. Rebalance the chewing forces in your mouth with a single dental implant and protect your front teeth from the risk of wear.

All-on-4 dental implants

If you have multiple missing teeth but are on a budget and still want to reap the benefits of dental implants, the good news is you can. With All-on-4 implants, it’s possible to secure a  set of bespoke dentures or a bridge in position.

Using 4 (or 6) implants placed at precise angles in the mouth, All-on-4 can replace a whole upper or lower arch of teeth, and you won’t have to go without teeth at any point throughout treatment. On the day of treatment, we will give you a temporary set of teeth to wear whilst you wait for the lab to return your unique and handcrafted fixed arch of teeth.

Another great characteristic of the All-on-4 system is that you do not have to remove your teeth to clean them, as they’re screwed into place. So, you won’t have to deal with the irritation and discomfort that’s very often associated with ill-fitting dentures.

During your consultation with us here at our Norwich Dental Practice, we’ll assess your smile and decide on which material would be the best fit for your bridge, or which type of dentures are most suitable. All our restorations are custom made by an excellent off-site dental technician, with whom we have a great rapport. Working closely with them, we’re able to design and craft a restoration that not only fits the proportions of your smile, but that looks authentic.

The dental implants journey at Corner House Dental

Every member of the Corner House Dental team understands that the prospect of having a tooth replaced is a significant, and even daunting for patients. Your patient journey with us starts from the moment you walk through the practice doors and are greeted by a member of our friendly reception team, who will escort you to meet your dentist who will be speaking to your during your consultation and performing the implant procedure at a later date. During this appointment, your options for replacing missing teeth will be explained to you in detail (but in layman’s terms too, as we know patients are not dentists!) and should you decide dental implants are suited to you, we can proceed by taking a bone density and volume scan, using our state-of-the-art CBCT scanner. This amazing treatment planning software measures the density of your jawbone, its width and depth, allowing us to check if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. If you don’t have sufficient bone to support dental implants, we may recommend a bone graft to help you build healthy and substantial bone, so you can undergo treatment at a later date.

Why replace dentures with dental implants?

Dentures are a cost-effective and sustainable way of replacing missing teeth, but after several years they start to become loose, as your jawbone begins to shrink. Dental implants offer a longer term solution to tooth loss than dentures and your ability to chew and taste your food will become enhanced. Dentures cover your palate, diluting the taste of your food and make it tough to tackle foods like steak and bread which require a lot of chewing. With secure dental implants that are surgically inserted into the jawbone, chewing will be easier, and you won’t have to worry about your dentures slipping when you are eating.

Another lesser known problem with dentures (and indeed missing teeth) is how they can change your facial make-up. As dentures aren’t fixed, your jawbone isn’t getting the support and stimulation it needs, because of the absence of real teeth. This can result in significant resorption (shrinking) of the jawbone, hollowing the cheek area and putting years on your appearance. Implants encourage your jawbone to begin functioning again, as they fuse with it in the months after they are placed, giving it what it needs to start functioning again.
