What is a veneer?
It is a thin slice of porcelain bonded to the front surface of a tooth (almost like a false nail).
When is a veneer used?
It is used to camouflage’s the underlying tooth. So If a tooth needs to be straightened or unsightly gaps need to be closed, then we use veneers.
What if my teeth are chipped?
This is the perfect solution for chipped, worn or discoloured teeth. It allows us to make changes to the size, shape,orientation or colour of existing teeth.
How do you place a veneer?
Some of the outer surface of the tooth must be removed in order to make sure that the veneer can be attached permanently to the existing tooth.
Will I lose a lot of my existing tooth?
The amount of tooth lost is minimal and will be roughly the same thickness of the veneer to be fitted. The tooth needs to stay the same size so in effect we just have to create a rough surface to allow the veneer to bond with the tooth.
How do you know what size my veneers should be?
Once the tooth has been shaped, an impression is taken of the prepared tooth and sent to a dental technician who will manufacture a veneer, which will be the ideal size, shape and colour that you will need.
How long will i have to wait for the laboratory to make my veneers?
The manufacturing process takes around 10 working days.
Will I have to walk around with rough teeth until my veneers are fitted?
No, in the interim a temporary veneer is placed over the tooth until your veneers are finally fitted.
How are veneers fitted to teeth permanently?
The veneer is fitted or bonded to the tooth with very strong cement.
How long does it take?
The time it takes is dependant on how many veneers you have chosen to undertake. Generally the procedure takes less than an hour and the final fitting takes about 30 minutes.
How long will veneers last?
Current clinical research suggests that crowns and veneers made using modern materials can last at least 10 – 15 years and may even last longer depending on diet, lifestyle and oral hygiene practices.
What do veneers cost?
It is our policy to only use superior dental ceramics in order not to compromise on the strength or aesthetics of our veneers. Our veneers are £440 per tooth.
