Have you made a New Year’s resolution yet? Whatever your answer, why not make regular flossing part of your daily routine?
Not only will flossing help clean and remove food debris from the areas that are hard to reach with a toothbrush, it will also help to prevent other serious issues such as periodontal disease.
Should you floss before or after brushing?
The American Dental Association claims that you can floss either before or after brushing, according to your own preference. By flossing first, you can brush away dislodged food debris afterward. On the other hand, brushing first allows you to loosen plaque between the teeth, making it easier to floss more effectively.
Whichever you choose, it’s important to floss thoroughly. That means using a fresh strand of dental floss daily, and carefully pulling it back and forth between all of the teeth.
Best times of the day to floss
Flossing just once a day would seem appropriate for many of us. However, if you have time, it might be a good idea to floss in the morning and at night after cleaning your teeth as this helps to prevent food and debris from remaining in the gaps between your teeth for long periods of time. , If you decide to floss just once a day, many people prefer to floss at night to prevent food and debris from remaining in the crevices of the teeth overnight. This could prevent the build-up of plaque too, which is a cause of tooth decay.
Just because you have brushed your teeth and can’t see any food stuck in between your teeth, doesn’t mean that there isn’t any.
