Firstly, what is a veneer….
A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of a damaged, cracked, chipped or decayed tooth. Veneers can also be used when there is a tooth that needs straightening, closing the unnatural gap.
What is the procedure behind getting veneers?
- You will need to attend an initial consultation so that your dentist can outline everything involved. This will be a good opportunity to ask any questions you might have. We understand that each patient is different here at Cornerhouse, so every treatment plan is bespoke according to each person’s needs.
- The tooth first needs to be prepared. This involves etching some of the enamel from the front side of the tooth in question, so that the veneer fits in with the aesthetic of your other teeth. If there is an area of your tooth that is decayed, your dentist will etch around this area as much as possible.
- You and your dentist will agree upon a shade for your veneer before treatment.
- Your dentist will create an impression of your tooth so that a model can be sent to the dental laboratory, where your veneer can be born!
- Before the veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, it will be temporarily placed onto your teeth so that your dentist can assess how it fits and looks.
- Once some small adjustments have been made, the veneer can be permanently bonded.
Quick round-up of the benefits of veneers:
- Durability and strength – Porcelain veneers are strong and allow you to enjoy the foods you love without needing to worrying about them falling out or getting damaged.
- Natural-looking aesthetics – Veneers are custom made to match your tooth colour and are etched to be a perfect fit amongst your other teeth.
- Stain-resistant – Veneers do not stain, unlike natural teeth (though this is not a reason not to clean them!). If you maintain your veneer effectively, it can last you a lifetime.
- No recovery period or surgery involved – the procedure is easy, painless and require no recovery.
