Dr Andre Potgieter is one of the two principal dentists at the practice and is passionate about providing the highest level of customer care. His belief, and indeed the belief of the practice, is to develop patient-dentist relationships that are ‘based on trust and mutual respect’. We caught up with Dr Andre to speak to him about his approach to dentistry and why Corner House Dental is a stand-out practice.
Q. Tell us a bit about your background?
A. I qualified in 1985 from the University of Stellenbosch and served as a dentist in the South African Defence Force. I moved my family to Norfolk in 1989 and started my journey at Corner House Dental. I have since become a member of the British Dental Association and have a certificate in Surgical and Prosthodontic Implantology from Eastman Dental Hospital and a certificate in Advanced Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.
Q. Why should patients look to Corner House Dental for their dental needs?
A. We believe in the patient’s journey. I think it’s important to have a relationship with your patient. It’s a mutual trust that develops between patient and dentist and I think that is essential to be a good dentist and for the patient to have a good experience.
Q. How do you impact the lives of your patients?
A. You’d be surprised how many people there are who aren’t confidence in their smile. It’s only when you offer something or ask if they have ever thought of straightening their teeth or close a gap that they realise how little they did smile. It is only once this has been restored that their confidence is restored. This is what makes our job a wonderful thing to do – to change and improve lives as well as give a better quality of life.
Q. Tell us about a stand out moment for you at Corner House Dental
A. The patient wanted a smile she felt confident going to Australia with going to see her son. I could see the difference between the photos that were taken at her consultation and at the end of the treatment – it made me tear up! That’s what makes our job special!
