What are crowns?
Dental crowns are caps, designed to fit over the remaining part of a tooth. The crowns we create here at Cornerhouse are made by experienced craftsmen who use natural-looking and modern ceramic materials. This is what makes our crowns so durable. Our crowns are custom made to fit wit your existing teeth.
Examples of when crowns are needed:
- Cracked or chipped teeth sustained from an accident.
- To cover a weak tooth that is suffering tooth decay.
- Restore a broken tooth that is very worn.
- Cover/support a tooth that has a filling and there isn’t much tooth left.
- Hold a bridge in position.
- To cover discoloured or misshaped teeth.
- Cover an implant.
- Cosmetic changes.
What is the process behind getting a crown?
The procedure behind getting crowns can be completed over 2 visits. Your first appointment will involve your dentist examining your tooth to ensure that it is able to support a crown – it will then be filed down in preparation for the crown itself.
Once the tooth has been filed and adjusted to the relevant shape for the crown, your dentist will take impressions of the tooth that is being crowned as well as surrounding teeth – the permanent crown can then be created with your neighbouring teeth in mind. Once the crown is ready, you can come in for your second visit where your temporary crown can be removed to make way for the permanently crown via a special adhesive.
Your new crown will not take long to get used to – it may feel a little odd at first but this will soon subside and you will be able to chew, smile and kiss with confidence again! Many patients find that their confidence improves dramatically after their smile has been repaired.
