Here at Corner House we will always strive to do what we can to salvage your tooth, though there are some instances where tooth extraction is the only course of action possible, and when a root canal can’t be performed. We understand tooth extraction can seem a daunting prospect to those who suffer from dental anxiety. Our team are good listeners who will do everything they can do make you feel at ease.
When is tooth extraction necessary?
Your teeth are pretty amazing things – they’re the strongest part of your body and can withstand a lot. Preventative dentistry is so important when it comes to preserving your smile so you can keep your natural teeth for life. Though in cases like where advanced decay or injury have occurred, it might be in the interests of the patient have a tooth removed. A further reason for tooth removal is to prepare your smile for orthodontic treatment or to make crowded teeth easier to brush and floss.
What to expect from tooth extraction
We will make sure you are comfortable and answer any questions you might have before the procedure. Please do not hesitate to let us know you are feeling a little anxious beforehand. You will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area surrounding the tooth that’s being removed so you don’t feel any pain throughout. One the tooth is pulled your dentist will pack a gauze pad into the socket and ask you to bite down on it to cease the bleeding. A small number of stitches may be used to close the gum edges over the site. We will give you some painkillers to use in the days after the procedure.
Dental implants: the best tooth replacement option
Dental implants are widely considered to be the best way to replace a lost tooth. As they’re a fixed solution that are surgically inserted into your jawbone, your body accepts them as if they were a real body part. The titanium from which they’re made is a highly biocompatible and helps to support your jawbone and give it the stimulation it needs to support your teeth. Here at Corner House we create a bespoke restoration (like a crown or bridge), with your smile in mind. We will carefully craft it to look great amongst your existing teeth. Dental implants can last a lifetime if properly cared for.
