Dental implant FAQs

What are dental implants?

Dental implants act as replacement tooth roots and can be a removable or fixed foundation, created to match your natural teeth. Implants are a bespoke treatment which is what makes them so successful – they’re the next best thing to your own natural teeth.

Where is the screw placed?

It is placed into the jawbone

Where are the implant generally used?

They are used to close gaps in a person’s smile, where they may have lost a tooth previously or following an extraction of a tooth.

Can anyone have an implant?

Yes, if there is sufficient healthy bone.

What does having an implant involve?

Using a local anaesthetic, a metal screw is placed in the jawbone, which is usually followed by a healing cap placed on the implant site in order to protect it. After the Implant is placed, the jawbone needs to grow onto them and fuse to them.

Is it painful?

No, but there may be slight discomfort and swelling the week after the surgery.
