Dental implants have helped change the fabric of what it means to replace a missing tooth. Around the world, they have the reputation for being the best means to do so, but what is it that makes them so great? We take a look at some of the reasons.
Dental implants look like natural teeth
Thanks to modern dentistry, tooth replacement restorations (the tooth-like part of the implant like a bridge or crown) look more like natural teeth than ever. Here at Corner House we have a bespoke approach to dental implants in Norwich and will always treat the individual not the patient. When designing the restoration, we’ll take things like your tooth shape and shade into account, so the dental lab can create a crown or bridge that suits your smile.
They’re highly biocompatible
Dental implants are made from titanium, a biocompatible material that the body readily accepts. The rejection rate with dental implants is extremely low (around 4-5%), so the majority of people will be eligible for treatment. Implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone and fuse with it over a period of around 6 months. During that time, the titanium implant is accepted by the body – your jawbone is essentially tricked into thinking the implant is a real body part and welcomes it.
They prevent bone loss and support your facial structure
One of the reasons dental implants are hailed as being the best way to replace missing teeth is because they achieve what dentures and bridges cannot – they preserve the health of your jawbone. As we outlined above, the implant is placed directly into the jawbone allowing the surrounding tissues to grow around it as if it were a real tooth. This means your teeth and jawbone get sufficient stimulation and there’s no risk of the bone receding.
Restore function to your smile
Missing teeth and ill-fitting dentures from yesteryear can make it a challenge to chew and speak with ease. Today, dentures are a better fit than ever before but they still don’t offer the same level of restoration as a fixed solution, like an implant.
They’re easy to take care of
The point of dental implants is that they resemble your real teeth in terms of aesthetic and function which makes them easy to maintain, compared to other tooth replacement appliances. A permanent treatment, dental implants can be looked after in exactly the same way as your existing teeth, unlike dentures which need to be removed and cleaned.
